Prompted by the exquisite tension between Clifford Ross’s magisterial, computer-generated video Digital Waves, and the enclosure of the National Gallery’s imposing classical Rotunda, Bill T. Jones and the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company takes the circle as both plot and metaphor.  The sound environment is designed by composer Emily Wells featuring vocalist Dev Woodson.

Acquired in 2025, the photograph reveals Ross’s long standing commitment to the sublime qualities of nature.  It is a counterpoint to the great, Storm in the Rocky Mountains, Mt. Rosalie by Albert Bierstadt, a central feature of the museum’s American art collection.
