Clifford Ross Mountains and Sea at The Museo Archeologico Nazionale includes nine large scale photographs. His first exhibition in Naples features work from his Mountain and Hurricane series. The two series chosen for the exhibition represent the realistic element of Ross"s creative path, which moves between a desire to grasp nature and a modernist impulse toward the power of abstraction in getting to the poetic truth of his subjects. The wave and mountain images in themselves are dynamically different expressions of the possibilities of photography, ranging from the stark elegance of black and white silver gelatin photographs to colorful, chromogenic prints depicting the rich subtleties of the world as we only rarely see it.
